Job Application Tips - How To Prepare Yourself for Those Employment Background Checks

You are not alone out there dealing with that job search. There are many other job seekers just like you and every one of you know just how scary the thought of an employment background check can be. It can be quite stressful thinking about what your former employers might have to say about you and your work. Below you will find a few ways to help prepare yourself for that background check and hopefully will also help you pass it with flying colors.

The very first thing that you should do is to take your resume and start calling all of the former employers that you have listed on it. You should call them and let them know that you are applying for a new job and that they might expect a call from the company that you are applying for. This will give your former employers a chance to prepare to say a few nice things about you. This also will give you a chance to try and smooth out things with an old employer that you may have left on bad terms with.

If you happen to think that smoking a little bit of pot isn't going to get in the way of your job search, you need to think again. No matter what it is, you need to make sure that you stop doing whatever you are doing and you should do this long before you get called in for an interview. More times than not not only will they do a background check but they will also request that you take a drug test. To be on the safe side you should do your best to refrain from such activities beginning at least two months before you apply for work. The smartest thing of course is simply don't do drugs period.

Get online and do a complete Internet search on yourself. Look for information about you that your potential employer might be looking for during a background check. Don't be surprised if they check Facebook to see if you have an account. It's a good idea if you do have an account to go over all of your postings to see if there might be some things that might not look good to an employer. You might want to remove everything that might come off as incriminating. If there is something you can't get rid of, you had better have a really good explanation for it should your potential employer find it and ask you about it.

Probably the best thing you can do for yourself when you are looking for a job is to make sure that no matter where you go or what you do try your best to be as professional as you possibly can. Don't take the chance that it won't be discovered but in today's world of high tech there is not much you can hide from anyone who looks hard enough to find it.
