How to Take Care of Your Skin if You have Dry Skin Psoriasis

When you have psoriasis this means that you have a chronic skin disorder that will result in red patches or dry silvery skin. This comes usually from an improper immune response in your system that is triggered by some abnormal cell cycle which will create more new skin before your old skin can be shed off of your body. This disorder is incurable but the symptoms can be reduced and remission can be possible.

If you have psoriasis you will want to talk to your doctor about the different medications that you might be taking because there are some drugs like those beta blockers for high blood pressure that will actually trigger outbreaks. There might be alternative drugs or suggestions that he might have that could help to cut down on these outbreaks.

You also need to talk to your doctor about the different kinds of treatments that there are to help treat the psoriasis. Topical ointments like corticosteroids, vitamin D cream, retinols as well as salicylic acids will help to encourage the shedding of the dead skin so that the cycle of skin growth can be more normalized and also help to stop the itching as well as the dry skin.

You should try and learn to manage your stress the best you can. It is known that emotional distress has a lot to do with the outbreaks of psoriasis. You should try to practice relaxing and even consider doing some yoga, try meditating, deep breathing exercises and other things that might help you feel more relaxed. Find something your really like to do and do it on a regular basis to cut down on your stress levels.

You may also need to change your diet to what is called an anti-inflammatory diet. Any kind of inflammation is going to interfere with the immune system and how it functions and can cause more outbreaks. So you should eat more fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans, soy, fish, seeds and nuts. You should also decrease the amount of sugar, red meats and refined white fours.

Another good thing to do is to make sure you don't have any food allergies or other allergies. If you have certain allergies this is going to trigger outbreaks of psoriasis. If you know about the allergies then you can avoid the foods and other things that you might be allergic to.

You can also use some really good natural things to help relieve the dryness as well as the itching of the psoriasis. Some of the things that can help would be aloe, capsaicin creams, apple cider vinegar, primrose oil, tea tree oil and oatmeal baths.

A good way to help soothe any inflammation and to help get rid of the dead skin is to take a bath in lukewarm water on a daily basis during the outbreak. You then can add any of these ingredients: epsom salts, natural bath oils, Dead Sea salts or oatmeal. Then soak for at least 15 minutes each bath.

There are a lot of people that have very sensitive skin and this makes it hard for them to find the right product that they can use that will help meet their needs. There are though, some things that a person can use or that they can make themselves in order to take care of their skin in a natural fashion. If you decide to go out and buy products that claim to be all natural you really need to read the ingredients to make sure there aren't any other chemicals in the product that would harm your skin. A lot of the chemicals that do get into so called natural products and put in to keep their shelf life longer and still these could be harmful to sensitive skin.

If you want to be able to give your skin a deep cleaning, something deeper than soap then you are going to need to use a natural toner. If you want to make sure that it's truly natural, you should make it yourself. You can do this by using items like witch hazel, cucumber juice, crushed alum, some rose water, boiled mint water, orange blossom water, apple cider vinegar, some lemon juice as well as grated potato. You can mix together any of these items to make a good natural skin toner.

There are a lot of products out there that claim to be natural cleansers for your skin but then again they could contain chemicals that are there to help preserve their shelf lives, so again you might want to consider making your own. There are a lot of different things that you might already have on hand that you can use for a natural skin cleanser. Some of those items are milk, yogurt, honey, papaya, coffee, apple cider vinegar, cucumbers, eggs and lemon juice.

Milk or yogurt combined with honey make a great cleanser and the honey adds some antibacterial properties as well. You can make your own cleanser by mixing any of the items together in any combination that you want. If you add coffee to one of your mixtures it is going to serve as an exfoliate and will remove dead skin cells and the caffeine will actually increase the blood flow to the skin. You can also use an egg as a mask and it will remove all the gunk from your pores as it dries on your skin.

If you want to go all natural when it comes to moisturizing your skin there are a few things that you can do and that would be by using jojoba oil, olive oil, vitamin E, use sesame oil, avocado oil, honey, beeswax, cocoa butter, coconut oil as well as macadamia extract. You can buy most of these things at any health foods store and then take any combination of them and mix them together to create your own personal moisturizer.

Skin Care Tips - How to Take Care of Very Dry Skin!

If you are suffering from very dry and flaky skin then this means that you really need to find a way in which you can treat your skin so that it's back to a more touchable and soft state. You skin could be dry because of the season of the year, a change in your environment or it could be just a long term issue that you have to deal with constantly. No matter what the reason for your dry skin this condition can be treated and treated fairly easily.

One of the main things that your dry skin needs is a moisturizer. You need to make sure that the lotion you get has salicylic or alpha hydroxyl in it. These are key ingredients that your skin is looking for. These are going to help to hydrate your skin and having hydrated skin on a regular basis is what is going to give you soft and smooth skin. So if you have dry skin, you need to make sure that you put lotion on every time you get wet like after doing dishes, swimming, taking a shower, etc. You also should consider getting rid of the bar soap and using body wash instead to help further moisturize your skin. When you dry off you should pat off the water and don't scrub off roughly.

It's important to remember to try and exfoliate about every 2 to 3 days with a scrub that is going to help rid your skin of dead skin cells. If you use a scrub of some kind it's going to make all of your body including your elbows, your knees and your feet feel nice and soft. You can make your own body scrub with stuff from home like seal salt or sugar and adding one or the other to some olive oil or honey and then scrubbing your skin with that. Just gently rub on your skin and then rinse off. The oil will penetrate your skin at the same time the dry flakes are being scrubbed off.

You should try to keep your feet moist by wearing socks when you are at home and not both shoes and socks. When you get home you should take off your shoes and your socks and then wash your feet and then put a rich cream or lotion on, Vaseline is good, to put on your feet. Then you can put on some clean socks. Before going to bed you can take your socks off and then wipe off the Vaseline.

For really dry skin the best moisturizer that you can get is one that has an oil base to it. It's the oils in that moisturizer that is going to help put a protective layer on your skin and is going to help keep your face soft. You also should use a sunscreen when you go outside in the sun and it should be an SPF of 15 or higher so that you can cut down on the suns ability to dry out the skin even further.

During the winter months it might be a good idea for you to use a humidifier because heating over the months can add just extra dryness to the air which in turn is going to dry your skin even more. You should also make sure that you drink lots of water in order for you to keep your body and skin hydrated.

Sunburned? How to Best Take Care of Your Sun Damaged Skin!

Even if you generally take care of your skin when you go out in the sun, there are times that you still may end up with a sunburn or someone in your family might because you forgot to put protection on or got in the water and failed to put more lotion on after you got out of the water. Whatever the reason it happens and it can be a very uncomfortable and nasty experience having a sunburn. If the sunburn is extremely sever you may have to go to the emergency room, however, if it's not there are ways in which you can treat the sunburn yourself.

One of the first things you can do is to treat the sunburned area immediately by putting cold water or some ice on the area that is burned. This is going to help reduce the actual temperature of the skin around the area that is burned and it is going to immediately stop the skin from blistering up. If the burn is over a large area of your body then you should take a cold shower or a bath and then put some bath oils on to help lubricate your skin.

If the pain is too much to take then it's suggested that you take an OTC medication that has an anti-inflammatory agent in it. This will help cut down on the pain and also help to keep any swelling or inflammation that may come with the sunburn.

You might also want to get some antibacterial creams that you can buy in the store and put this on the affected area. This is going to help to keep down any infections as well as cut down on the redness that comes with sunburns and the swelling as well.

Everyone knows that once the skin begins to heal there is an intense itching that comes from the dryness that is caused from the sunburn. This can be eased by putting on some cream or lotion that contains aluminum acetate. Do not use any harsh soap on your skin where the sunburn is because this is only going to make the sunburn worse because it could cause more drying of the skin.

A really good natural ingredient that will help cut down on the itch as well as the pain is oatmeal. It has a very soothing effect on the skin. Just put a few cups of oatmeal into a cheese cloth and then let it soak under some cold water running from your faucet and make sure you collect the water in a bowl. Then take a compress and soak it in the oatmeal water and apply this to the areas of your skin that is sunburn. Make sure to repeat this several times during the time you have your sunburn.

Plain yogurt is another natural item you can use to help to lessen the pain of your sunburn. Take some cold plain yogurt and rub it onto your skin where you have the sunburn and let it dry. After it is dry you can go ahead and wash it off and dry your skin lightly with a towel.

Another really great help for the sunburn pain is Aloe Vera. You can buy lotions and gels that have Aloe Vera in them at your local drugstore. If you happen to have the plant in your home then take the juice from a couple of it's leaves and apply the juice directly to your skin.

It is really important that during the sunburn that you keep your skin really moist because the dryness can become extreme if you don't. It's probably a good idea to use lotions that have palm oil as well as shea butter because they add some extra emollients and will help to replenish the moisture to the surface of your skin.

Another natural home method is to take some lettuce and boil it, drain the water into a container and discard the lettuce. Put the lettuce water in the refrigerator for about twenty minutes and then put it on your sunburn with cotton balls. You can also take some vinegar and add a cup of vinegar into a bowl that contains some cold water and simply rub the vinegar water all over the sunburn this will cut down on the pain as well as the itching.

Other things that you can use are witch hazel lotion and apply it to the sunburn. The herb will help cut down on the skin's inflammation. Take a cotton ball and soak it in the witch hazel and rub into onto your skin. You can also pour some into a bath and soak in it. You can also use Calamine lotion because of it's soothing effect on skin.

Rub the lotion onto your skin to get some relief. Don't forget good old baking soda as well. Mix some baking soda in with some water and then soak the area where you are sunburned for about 15 minutes. Or you can apply it to the skin and just let it remain on the skin and dry before rinsing it off.

Acne Resources - Top Concealers for Those Who are Prone to Acne Breakouts

If you have acne prone skin you probably already know just how hard that it can be to conceal it. No matter what you try it seems like you can't hide those annoying pimples and a lot of times you don't want to use make up that is only going to irritate the skin even more. There is however some good over the counter concealers that you can get that actually do a good job to cover up those annoying blemishes. Some of these are even medicated to help provide some acne prevention.

One of the more trusted brands on the market is Proactive. They have a medicated concealer that will hide the blemishes at the same time that it is helping to get rid of the pimples. It is an oil free compound that contains sulfur which is also contained in their refining mask – a good product to use as a spot treatment for pimples. The sulfur in the product seems to help the pimples to heal. This concealer can also help to prevent any future breakouts in the area that you use it on.

Another good over the counter product is by Clinique and is the line of products called Acne Solutions. This particular line of products was specifically designed by a dermatologist and is for the sole purpose of treating the acne without having to buy prescription medications for it instead. One of the items that they offer is a cream concealer that not only fights pimples but also gives a natural looking cover over the entire face and does not have a tendency to cake on the face like other products. It is an oil free product that has 1% salicylic acid solution in it. Pure acne fighting products contain just 2%, so there is very little difference. The concealer is a lot gentler on the skin but it is still effective. It is also available in three different shades so that it is easier to match to your skin tone.

Murad has one called Acne Treatment Concealer which is a stick concealer that also has some salicylic acid in it and help to fight the pimples at the same time that it covers them. This again is another oil free product and won't cause any future outbreaks because of its oil free composition. They claim that clinical studies show that 86% of their users were able to see results in just two weeks. This also comes in three different shades to make it easier to match to your skin tone.

Physicians Formula does not have any medication in it so it doesn't heal pimples but it does claim to conceal the blemishes for up to 12 hours. This is an oil free cream that needs just a tiny dab to spread onto your blemishes. Very little is needed to get the blemishes concealed. It has five different shades to help you hide the blemishes according to the color of your skin and the severity of the blemishes that you have.

Acne Resources - Understanding the 4 Different Stages of Acne Development

There are millions of people, especially teens that suffer from acne. This can be a terrible ordeal for some people if they have severe cases of it. One of the things that is important here is that you understand what it is and what the different stages are. This can sometimes make it a lot easier to find a plan of action in order to combat it.

When a person enters the first stage of acne they will run into what are called comedones or whiteheads and blackheads as they are more commonly called. This is when the pores on the skin begin to get clogged with the dead skin cells we shed each day. This then is going to block the sebum, which is an oil that is secreted by the sebaceous glands. The purpose of this oil is to help protect your skin. When the sebum is blocked and can't be released it's going to begin to simply pile into the pores and stay there.

Whiteheads are closed comedones and they will form a mixture of the oil and dead skin cells and this will stay trapped under the skins surface. When a person has an open comedone or a blackhead this is when the pore opens up to the surface and then the oil will become oxidized which gives it it's black appearance on the surface of the skin.

The second stage of acne is when the papules will start appearing. Papules are elevated bumps that are small and found on the skin of the person with acne. This will happen when bacteria such as Propionibacterium acnes is present. This is when the acne begins to start spreading quickly because of all the clogged pores. What happens is that the white blood cells will try and fight the bacteria and this will cause the pores in the face to become inflamed. When you get to this stage this is considered a mild case of acne.

In the third stage the pustules will begin to form a few days after a person has hit stage 2. This is after the white blood cells have rushed to try and fight the bacteria and the problem has reached the surface of the skin. This is more commonly known as a bad breakout of pimples. This is a more severe form of acne and these pustules will collapse or even burst and can then inflame other areas of the skin which will lead to the rapid spread of the pimples to other areas of the skin that were not inflamed earlier.

The final stage or stage 4 is when the pustules actually do burst and then the skin around the pustules will become inflamed and then this can cause cysts and nodules to form on the skin. This is the most severe kind of acne a person can get. These nodules are lesions that are inflamed and will go deep into the skin of the person afflicted and not only are these painful but they can even damage the lower layers of the skin which can eventually lead to scarring. The cysts are larger than the nodules and they are filled with the pus, bacteria as well as dead skin cells and they can damage the tissue of the skin and leaves scars as well.

How To Get Rid of Acne Using Heat Therapy

Acne is something that the majority of teens struggle with and it even will appear in adults as well. Those who seem to have a struggle with acne are always trying to find new and different ways in which they can treat their acne or hopefully cure it. One of the newer types of therapy out there now is heat therapy. This is a combination of a light pulsing therapy and heat. This for some is considered to be an alternative to the traditional drug and/or lotion type treatments.

First off, acne will consist of breakouts that can be minor to major and it cause inflammation of the skin. This is most generally caused from the sebaceous glands being overactive and then will produce excessive amounts of oil onto the skin. This oil will then combine with dead skin cells and clog the pores in your skin which then results in the breakouts and other skin problems. Current research has also discovered that the acne can be cause by changes in hormonal levels as well as being hereditary.

The heat therapy with it's pulsing light will attack the acne from the deeper layers of the skin out. With traditional treatments like lotions and ointments they will just try to treat from the outside of the skin in and isn't always as effective as a person might like for them to be. With the heat therapy, the light will be pulsed into the skin with the heat. The heat is going to kill what is called P. acnes and this is a bacterial that generally causes the inflammation and all of the breakouts. So the combination of the light and the heat will cause the sebaceous glands to shrink and then this is going to reduce the amount of oil that is released from the glands. This in turn will cause less breakouts to happen.

This is a relatively new kind of treatment and you may have to search for a while before you find a doctor that knows about it and uses it. One of the best things about this type of treatment is that it does not cause scarring like a lot of the other treatments might do. It has a way of getting deep into the lower layers of the skin without doing any damage to your outer layers of skin. When you do find a doctor that does this therapy, make sure that you ask him to do just one small section of your face just to make sure that your skin is not sensitive to this kind of treatment before you commit to doing the entire treatment.

There are a few side effects that have been noticed by some patients. Some patients have said that there is pain in the face during the treatment but this can be taken care of by using an anesthetic if the patient needs it. There is also sometimes some soreness and redness after the therapy and in some very rare cases there has been some noted peeling of the skin. This would be something similar to the peeling you have when you get a sunburn.

If you decide to do this kind of therapy understand that this can be a very expensive way to go and that there is no current research on how well this works over the long term. There are very few things that you have to do to prepare for this kind of therapy. Pretty much all you have to do is avoid the sun as much as possible before your therapy. A sunburn or tan can actually interfere with the therapy. You also should avoid the sun right after the therapy.

Alternative Medicine & Acne - How You Can Use Herbs to Help Treat Your Acne!

Using Herbs to Help Treat Your Acne Teens are not the only ones that get acne, there more adults out there than a lot of people might think. The reason for the acne, especially in adults is thought to be overactive sebaceous glands. This makes the pores on the face kind of sticky and then in turn this will trap all of the dirt and bacteria that gets on the skin. Although this is the most common belief, some alternative medicine specialists also believe that acne can be caused by the skin actually releasing different toxins when we sweat. Because of this some of these specialists will recommend that their patients use different herbs to help get rid of these toxins. Things like dandelion, yellow dock root and chaparral can help to fight acne. Below you will find a couple of different poultices that are thought to help treat acne.
  1. Using a Dried Herb Poultice
    • Get some dried lavender, yellow rock root and chaparral from a place that sells these types of organic plants, or you can just grow them yourself, it's up to you.
    • You will need a mortar and a pestle to take these herbs and grind them together. You will need to grind them down to a powder that can be mixed together easily.
    • Next take the mixture and put it into a bowl and then begin adding a little bit of warm water to it until it starts turning into a nice thick paste.
    • Now take this mixture an put it onto some gauze that is spread out onto a flat and clean surface.
    • After you have done this you will need to make sure that you clean your face really good. A good thing to use is hydrogen peroxide.
    • Take the gauze with your poultice and lay down while you make sure that your entire face is covered by the gauze.
    • You will need to keep this on your face for at least one hour. While you are doing this, don't be surprise if your skin begins to throb. This is normal. What is happening is that the herbs are actually trying to draw out all of the toxins that are in your skin and even in your blood.
  2. Using a Fresh Herb Poultice
    • With this you will need to get yourself some fresh lavender, chaparral and yellow rock root. Again you can find these at places that sell organic products. But as always, growing them yourself is probably the best way to go.
    • Once you have these herbs you will need to take about two ounces of each herb and put them in a small saucepan and add one cup of water to the mixture.
    • You will next let this mixture simmer for about two minutes.
    • Again, take some gauze and lay it out on a flat and clean surface. Take the liquid herb mix and pour it onto the gauze.
    • Make sure to wash your face really good before applying the gauze. As stated before, hydrogen peroxide works great for this.
    • Take the poultice and put it over your entire face and lie down and relax with it on your face.
    • This poultice works best when you also keep it on for at least one hour. When the throbbing stops, you will now that the treatment is done and you can remove the gauze from your face.
Even though these herbs are being used as a topical treatment, they still are not meant to be used for extended periods of time. So it is always advisable, even for acne treatment to use them for a short period of time.

Want Healthier Looking Skin? Try These Easy Skin Care Tips for Women!

If you want to have healthy skin but you also don't want to get involved with a complicated skin care routine because of your busy lifestyle, there is a way for you to develop an easy skin care plan that is not going to take a lot of your time nor is it going to cost a lot of money either. In fact you probably already have some of the product in your home already.

One of the most important things you can do for your skin is to get rid of the dead skin cells on your face. This should be done at least once a week with something that has either hydroxy acid or salicylic acid or even glycolic acid in it. This will help get rid of the dead skin that is on the outer layer. If you have too many of these dead cells on your face it's going to feel rough and may even have a yellow tint to it. If you don't want to purchase a toner that has these items, you can take a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice added to the same amount of water and dab it on with cotton balls and it will do the same thing as the store bought toner or astringent. You will however, want to purchase a moisturizer that also contains alpha hydroxy acids in it to help keep your skin smooth and soft.

You should use a mild cleanser before you apply an moisturizer every day. This will help to keep the skin clean, moist and this will help to cut down on wrinkles and cracks in the skin that can be caused from your skin being too dry.

If you do have dry skin it is a good idea that when you wash your face that you use warm water and not hot water along with either a mild cleanser or mild bar of soap. You should also make sure that your showers or baths are kept short to minimize contact with the water and then make sure to use your moisturizer by patting it gently on your skin after.

For dry skin you need a moisturizer that is going to keep the water in your skin and this will help to keep your skin hydrated. So for dry skin make sure to get a moisturizer that has lanolin, mineral oil or petroleum jelly. As for oily skin you want to make sure that it's the opposite and is a water based moisturizer.

Since the makeup you wear generally stays on all morning and into the evening it is really important that the makeup you use doesn't cause allergic reactions and that it is not the kind that is going to clog your pores which can lead to acne. Also make sure that your makeup has a sunscreen in it. Make sure that you put moisturizer on before you put your makeup on.

Speaking of sunscreen. It's a good idea to make it a routine for you to add sunscreen to your daily skin care plan. If you get too much unprotected exposure to the sun your skin will begin to feel rough and start to dry out and this can cause premature age spots and wrinkles as well as lead to cancer. So if you know you are going to be in direct sun you should apply a sunscreen of 30 SPF and you should do this about thirty minutes before you are exposed to the sun. It should be a broad spectrum sunscreen so that it blocks the ultraviolet A as well as the ultraviolet B rays of the sun.

How To Treat Your Acne Prone Skin the Natural Way!

There are a lot of different expensive ways and spa treatments that you can get involved with when you are trying to treat your acne prone skin and a lot of these things work but at a high price. If you can't afford one of these expensive treatments you might be surprised at the fact you don't have to waste your money on them after all. A lot of natural skin care products can be found right in your own kitchen or you can buy them at the grocery store. So, this should be a relief for you who have acne problems to discover there is help out there that is not going to break the bank. Below you will find a few homemade facials that will give you the same results as a fancy spa.

The first one you can make is by taking two tablespoons of lemon juice and combine it with two tablespoons of distilled water. You then can take this mixture and put it on your face with a clean cotton ball. This will help to remove any excess oil there might be on your skin. It will also help to clean your pores as well as tighten them. This will also kill any bacteria that is on the surface of the skin. This is a great toner for anyone with oily skin.

Another one that you can make is a mixture of 1/ teaspoon of cornstarch with one teaspoon of coconut milk and one teaspoon of pineapple juice. You will then stir this until it becomes a smooth paste. Next you will put the paste on your skin like a mask and let it stay on your skin for 10 minutes. After ten minutes you will then rinse your face with warm water. You should try using this mask two times a week for it to heal your skin and help get rid of blemishes.

You can also take a tomato and remove the skin and the seeds from the tomato and discard. Now crush up the tomato and then add one teaspoon of lemon juice, one tablespoon of dried mint leaves, two tablespoons to the instant oatmeal and then add ½ tablespoon of dried yeast. Make sure to mix well and then apply it on your face like a mask. Leave the mixture on your face for 10 minutes and then wash off with warm water. This is a mask that you can use three times a week and it will help to normalize your skin and to get rid of the acne as well.

Yogurt is something else that you can use. Take a ½ cup of plain yogurt and combine it with 3 tablespoons of crushed up almonds. This can be used as a facial scrub to help get rid of blemishes and to help clean out your pores. Don't use this more than once a week because it could be too abrasive for you skin if you were to use it more often than that.

One final one that you might want to try would be where you take three tablespoons of honey and combine it with one teaspoon of cinnamon powders. Put this on your face and let it dry. You can then go to bed with it on your face and wash it off with warm water in the morning. This one is safe to use every night if you wanted to, to help you fight the acne.

Note: It's probably a good idea before you try any of these to make them up and put a small amount either behind your ear or on your arm on the inside. If there are no signs of irritation within an hours time then it's safe to say that they will be OK to use on your face.
